Israel Hall Stays Locked In and Keeps a Positive Mindset for His Future In Basketball
April 7, 2026 - Angelica Lux
Junior Israel Hall is focused on his game. As he prepares to transfer from Piedmont University for his senior season, he seeks new opportunities to grow. His mindset keeps him ready on and off the court.
“Coming in as a freshman, compared to now, my mindset is not the same at all,” says Hall. “I am the kind of person who feels like I can honestly do anything that I put my mind to.”
Before college, basketball was fun for Hall. At Piedmont, the game became a job, and the pressure increased. While this prepared him for potential professional play, it made the experience less enjoyable.

“There is a hint of gratitude in there because I know that a lot of people would kill for your spot.”
Playing behind former student Ryan Jolly, who transferred to a Division I school, for his first couple of seasons, Hall’s mentality changed. He shifted into going with the flow of each situation, keeping the pressure off his shoulders.
“Taking it day-by-day and remembering that basketball, at the end of the day, is just a game…that is definitely where my mindset has shifted towards.”
As he walked into his junior season, he continued to view playing as a job, but in comparison to prior seasons, he learned to love the sport again and ultimately had fun playing. He took into account how grateful he is to play basketball at the collegiate level.

“I feel like it is an unconditional love at this point,” Hall says about how he feels about basketball nowadays.
Hall sees playing basketball as a privilege to get up every day and be able to play. His hard work motivates him to keep playing and continue to push himself physically and mentally.
How he carries himself on the court is one of the most important factors for Hall. As he keeps his composure, Hall sees himself becoming not just a mature athlete, but a better person on and off the court.
“You can be the best player, but coming off as super cocky or a jerk pushes a lot of people away from you,” says Hall. “I pride myself in the way that I handle myself on the court.”
Hall’s father was a basketball coach, trained by former San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich on the coaching. This inspired Hall to play with passion and make his family proud. As he prepares for the transition to a new team, coaching is a key aspect in his decision.

Looking back, Hall realizes how impactful his previous coaches have been to him. He sees how much they cared about him and the energy and effort they poured into him.
“My high school coach and AAU coach, I still keep in contact with those guys…when it comes to me playing basketball, that is one of the main things that I am considering,” says Hall.
His ultimate future plan for basketball is to play professionally. As he stays focused, humble and composed, his future continues to shine bright for him. But for now, working on a better mentality is the goal. Tossing aside underclassmen habits keeps Hall on the right track of being more mature, a better teammate and person overall.
“You definitely want to surround yourself with people who have the same goals as you.”
Who he surrounds himself with is a priority when prioritizing his goals. Having teammates who share the same work ethic as Hall keeps him in the right mindset to succeed and reach his short and long-term goals.
